The Advisory Board of Harrison High School Bands is a representative body of student elected leaders whose purpose is to set the standard and provide support for, advise and assist all instrumental music students. Besides acting as exemplars for the ensembles, each member of the board also performs specific duties that make the music program stronger and function more smoothly and efficiently. Below are the 2008-2009 board members along with a brief description of what they each do for the program.
Demetrio Cutaran - Treasurer – Responsible for assisting in distribution and record keeping of fundraisers, collection of band fines and lost items, and providing financial student input.
Christian Fergins - Drum Major/Chairperson & Freshman Assistant – Responsible for serving as the board spokesperson and conducting the band, calling and leading advisory board meetings efficiently and acclimating new freshman or new students to the program.
Nathan Knitter - Historian – Responsible for accurately recording all band events, taking minutes at meetings and creating photo, DVD, and sound recording archives of the band.
Daniel Kochis - Librarian – Responsible for keeping the music library organized, catalogued and current, collecting and distributing music, and duplicating audition excerpts/packets.
Kenny Martinez - Producer – Responsible for publicizing band events and advertising performances via print, radio, and television, updating the band website, and publicizing department events to the district.
Toni Nichols - Uniform Manager – Responsible for overseeing the repair of uniforms, making sure uniforms only leave the uniform room for band functions, and being the only person to check-in or check-out uniforms for performances.
Nicholas Watson - Recruiter/Equipment Manager – Responsible for recruiting students from the district to join band throughout the year, & maintaining the instrument inventory by managing instrument check-in/check-out periodically throughout the school year.
Elections - How do I get on the board?
Elections for the Advisory Board are held each May. Any student who is actively involved in the instrumental music program is eligible for nomination.
Meetings
The board meets once a week, currently Mondays at 5:30pm, to discuss current band events and politics and organize various functions. All students are welcome to attend meetings as observers at any time.
