Color Guard

The Color Guard is a vital part of the Panther Marching Band who add color and visual interest to the music.  Color Guard students learn to spin, toss, twirl, or otherwise manipulate various pieces of equipment.  Some of the equipment guard members learn to use includes: many flags of various sizes which are attached to poles or chains, rifles, sabers and other assorted objects (bar stools, hula-hoops, etc).  Guard work often also incorporates many forms of dance.  These maneuvers are choreographed to the marching show so that impact points in the music are accented by visual artistry.

Students are required to enroll in 1st Period "Marching Band" if they are in the Color Guard.  They are also required to attend all band performances and competitions throughout the fall marching season.

If this sounds like fun to you or you happen to have a background in dance, but nowhere to use it, join the Color Guard!

Winter Guard

The Winter Guard is the Color Guard unit from the marching band for the remainder of the year.  It is also a larger group because it is open to any students, regardless of experience.  The Winter Guard unit prepares a unique show and travels to competitions sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Winter Guard Association. It’s tons of FUN!

Because winter guard is an activity, not a class, practices beyond the class hour will be required of all guard members.  The instructional practices will be on Mondays from 3-5:30pm throughout the competitive season.  These practices are used for learning and tightening up choreography, perfecting marching and/or any other aspect of learning the winter guard show.  Individual practice time is scheduled Tues-Friday each week from 3-4:00pm.  Each student will be required to attend at least 3 of these 4 practices each week in addition to the Monday practice.
